Following is a word from the company founder:
Colin Fraser
Company Founder
It's all about providing solutions for your web development needs. If you
want a great looking website, we have it. If you want help customizing that
great website so that it is perfectly tailored to your needs, we offer it.
If you need to talk to a real person and get real answers, we actually pick
up the phone when it rings!
We have taken our years of experience, both in the software world and in the
customer service industry, and we have merged them into a business which is
uniquely human in this impersonal world of the internet.
I started "Lucky Marble" as a one man operation, building FrontPage 2000 web
themes and templates. I had left the "MAN" after 20 years of dedicated
service, feeling it was time to put my business savvy, and customer service
experience to use - time to start my own company. When your hobby takes off,
and earns more than your real job, the decision becomes a no-brainer. And
so, I made the leap. After the first year of solo flight, and a year of
drafting a business plan (which can be very tricky to do in the changing
world of the Internet), Brandon Devnich approached me with a
well-thought-out proposal. The next generation of Interactive 3designs was
formed and we launched our new business plan into action. Brandon is now my
business partner, COO, and the talent and brains behind our website -- he
brought in the big guns.
"Lucky Marble" is the dream job for me. One, because the other folks around
the office do call me the boss (among other things). But on a serious note,
I did work in the corporate world in the general manager role for a
multi-billion dollar company (and I would even give my kudos if their stock
was as good as it used to be). One of my key strengths I would say in
business management was to hire the best person for the job, invest time and
resources in their training and motivation, and promote them on their
merits. It worked for years, and I was very successful with this approach.
I've finally found a job where the only shareholder to be breathing down the
dividends is me! It's so nice to be able to concentrate on what we do best,
build relationships. I have a fairly simple approach to the business. It's
cheaper to keep a customer, than to find a new one. (Well, I haven't taken
my off eye of the bottom line completely you know). Currently 40% of our
members have purchased more than one web site template. And this number
keeps rising! This isn't McDonald's where customers can make a weekly visit
thru the drive thru. We must be doing something right for our members to
come back to us for their next web site purchase.
A couple of thoughts that keep me going in the right direction:
Change is good and necessary. (But not for the sake of change)
If it ain't broken, don't fix it. (Remember 'New Coke'?)
So the change was good, and I took the things that worked in the corporate
world, and applied them to our own small corner of the massive internet.
First thing I needed to do was find someone with the skills that would
complement my own. Maybe fate played a bit of a role, if you believe in it,
but Brandon gave me a call just as I was looking to hire someone to help
with the 7 day a week, 14 hours a day work load.
